Titles & Opening Sequences Analysis

100 Days with Mr. Arrogant (2004)

Mise en scene - SETTING

The opening sequence includes lots of close ups and panning shots. You would assume that things taking place are based around school. This is because it starts of with a bunch of girls wearing school uniform and sitting on a chair with a little desk in-front. These props are what you would typically find in a school. The dialogue used in the opening sequence tells us immediately what the plot is. From the dialogue we can connote that there is going to be a relationship between student and Mr. Arrogant who is represented as 'hot'. Straight away we can tell this by the amount of close up shots there is for Mr. Arrogant. Conveying to the audience that he is vain and all females admire him.

All of the shots are very high key lighting, giving off a very cheerful, energetic and amazing feel. All of the colors are bright which could denote the arrogance of Mr. Arrogant, wherever he is the place will always be cheerful, energetic and give off an amazing feel.

Editing - Shot selection and order, continuity

There isn't anything special about the opening format. It's your typical romance and comedy. It gives you a sense of who the main roles are by the long duration footage on the individual. At first we have the girls in school and then it switches over to Mr.Arrogant who we immediately are able to tell that it's based around them.

A lot of the editing start to come in when Mr.Arrogant is shown. We get a glimpse of slow motion when he starts walking. Also, there you will start to notice the sound effects, music and titles which appear.

Camera

The sequence consists of close ups and panning shots. This straight away tells us where the main focus of the film is. During the opening sequence, there are a few panning shots which denote the confidence of Mr.Arrogant. The titles don't come up on the footage. They are separately placed in between. The text looks all bubbly and fun which could denote how the film is going to be.
